# Dowwwn

**A browser for a simpler web.**

Dowwwn is a web browser for the Mac that reads pages written in [Markdown](https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/index.text). It asks each server for `text/markdown`, and shows what comes back as a calm, readable page: text, links, pictures, tables, formulas and drawings. No HTML, no JavaScript, no pop-ups.

**[Download Dowwwn 0.1.4 for Mac](https://releases.dowwwn.com/Dowwwn-0.1.4.zip)** — a beta version, notarized by Apple, for macOS 27.

## Maths, set as TeX sets them

Write LaTeX between dollars, and Dowwwn typesets it with its own engine, made to match TeX: fractions, matrices, aligned equations, braces, and chemistry with `\ce{…}`.

This one is not a picture: it is in this page's Markdown.

$$\int_{-\infty}^{+\infty} e^{-x^2}\,dx = \sqrt{\pi}$$

## Drawings, written in the page

An `` ```svg `` block in the Markdown is drawn, not printed, by Dowwwn's own SVG renderer: gradients, text, filters, animation, light and dark. The logo at the top of this page is one: a few lines of this very file.

## Read, and write

Pages can answer back. Sign in to a site that allows it, edit the Markdown, and Dowwwn saves it to the server. Select a few words and press ⌘K: they become a link to a new page.

## For people who publish

Serve Markdown when it is asked for: answer `Accept: text/markdown` with the page's Markdown, or point to it from your HTML:

```html
<link rel="alternate" type="text/markdown" href="/index.md">
```

This site does both. A browser gets HTML made from [index.md](index.md); Dowwwn gets index.md itself.
